INDOOR & OUTDOOR

Men's Outdoor Bowling

The outdoor club is very active, participating in National and County competitions together with inter club competitions organised by London and Southern Counties Bowling Association and Sutton and District Bowling Association. We also participates in the East Surrey League, Sutton & Epsom League, Tons League and the New Surrey Bowls League.

The club offers coaching for newer bowlers and provides a friendly environment to enjoy your bowls at any level.

Friendly matches are played many of which are mixed matches. Internally there are ballots which are played on a turn up and play basis and again some of these are mixed. There is a strong programme of internal competitions in the various formats for bowls.

There are Men’s ballots on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday evenings with mixed ballots on Monday and Friday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. Our ballots are very popular as they are a valuable way to gain experience and to get to know fellow club members.

There are men’s versus ladies matches on Presidents and Captain’s days and we also run competitions at the club which are open to other clubs.

Ladies Outdoor Bowling

Sutton Bowling Club has a thriving and successful ladies’ outdoor section. We have nearly 100 lady members whose abilities range from novice bowlers to top Surrey players.

We are affiliated to Bowls England, Surrey County Women’s Bowling Association, Sutton & District Ladies’ Bowling Association, East Surrey League and Smith’s Trophy League. We enter the National ‘Top Club’ Competition and normally enter two teams in the Past Times Trophy.

A ladies’ ballot is organised on Monday afternoons and there are mixed ballots on Wednesday evenings and Friday afternoons. Our ballots are very popular as they are a valuable way to gain experience and to get to know fellow club members.

We have a full and varied fixture list comprising friendly matches - ladies and mixed. Then there are league games and club representative games like the Top Club Competition and Past Times Trophy. For the competitive minded there is ample scope to take part in competitions: Surrey, Sutton & District and Club.

Mixed Outdoor Bowling

In addition to the Men;'s and Ladies bowling there is a comprehensive array of mixed bowling acttivities.  We play in the Racal Decca and Vilamoura mixed league and arrange mixed friendlies with other clubs and also club mixed matches.  Mixed ballots are held on Monday and Friday afternoons and Wednesday evening. Our ballots are very popular as they are a valuable way to gain experience and to get to know fellow club members.

Coaching

We provide coaching for all new bowlers free of charge. This includes not just the mechanics of bowling but also how the game is played,

etiquette etc. In addition we also provide, on request, 'remedial' coaching for more experienced bowlers.

On completion of coaching we provide an on-going mentoring service to help new bowlers understand how the club operates, (e.g. joining / playing for the club etc.). For the men this is done by Dennis Sheppard and for the ladies Dot Power.

The organiser of coaching is Mike Power.
